Sources & listing information
Each residence profile links to its sources. Use official registers for current licence and inspection information, and contact the residence for services, rates and availability.
How we build and maintain the directory
Carehaven is an independent directory. We keep retirement communities and long-term care homes in separate categories, even where they share an operator or campus. Memory care and assisted living describe services; they do not establish a long-term care licence.
Ontario retirement communities
Basic records come from the RHRA public register. The October 8, 2026 snapshot contains 777 records with licence status Issued or Issued with conditions. The licence numbers were reconciled with the current issued-licence register on October 12, 2026. Each listing links to its current source record. Historical terminated, surrendered, revoked, refused, withdrawn, and application-only records are excluded from the browsing directory. A terminated historical licence does not establish that the home closed; we look for the current licence record.
Ontario long-term care homes
Basic location records come from the Ontario Ministry of Health Service Provider Locations dataset, restricted to its Long-Term Care Home classification. There are 612 records in this source snapshot, plus 13 separately sourced operator records. Later operator-confirmed location corrections are recorded on individual profiles. The catalogue describes data current as of March 31, 2025. This dataset is dated and is not a complete current LTC licence register. A location record does not prove a current licence or vacancy. Use the provincial homefinder to confirm current details.
The October 13, 2026 review matched the ministry inspection-search records with operator information, added three homes, updated relocated communities and archived two predecessor listings with links to their replacements. Historical and temporary-site records are not automatically counted as additional operating homes. Hospital Veterans and interim-care programs are labelled separately on their profiles. The inspection search is not a complete current licence master, so full Ontario coverage has not been certified.
Property photos are matched to individual homes and their current street addresses. Some homes publish only stock images, renderings or photos of a former site; these are not substituted for a verified current-home photograph. Where an authentic photo is not verified, historical aerial imagery may be available.
Ontario government location data is used under the Open Government Licence – Ontario. Carehaven is not affiliated with or endorsed by RHRA, Ontario, or listed providers.
Different admission routes
Families apply directly to retirement communities. For long-term care, Ontario Health atHome coordinates assessment and placement. Carehaven does not make admission decisions or maintain official waiting lists.
What remains unknown
Prices, care services, amenities, direct contacts, and availability remain unconfirmed where a source does not provide them. Unknown is not the same as unavailable. Profiles now present structured listing facts and research tools rather than rewritten operator marketing descriptions. Sources and checked dates appear with the relevant listing details. Source retrieval dates do not mean a residence was inspected or independently quality-certified.
